The first and last time I visited Paris was four years ago. I’ve been missing it something fierce lately. My longing was manifesting itself in an increase of croissant consumption. So I coped by doing a mini tour of croissants in Austin and want to share my research with you!
Where to Find Buttery Croissants in Austin, Texas
Bonhomie

The most creative croissant in Austin goes to Bonhomie’s pho brisket french dip croissant. This buttery croissant is stuffed with brisket meat and comes with a pho broth you can dip the croissant into. Creative and flavorful!
Easy Tiger

Easy Tiger is a town favorite. I especially love that it’s conveniently on the same street as my work and on my way in. Both their plain croissants and chocolate croissants have helped me find pleasurable moments in the morning through the years. (Also, come for lunch and experience their beer cheese!)
Elizabeth St. Cafe

I’ve heard mixed reviews concerning Elizabeth St. Cafe’s price points for Vietnamese food but there seems to be a universal consensus about their pastries. That is, they’re bomb and worth it. Their croissants rank one of my favorites in town. Chocolate, almond, and plain!
Quack’s 43rd St. Bakery

I’m so lucky that I can walk to Quack’s 43rd St. Bakery. A neighborhood classic and favorite in Hyde Park. Their Everything Croissant is so good!
La Patisserie

There’s two locations but I’ve only checked out the one on W. Annie. They have a second location on Burnet. Their most popular croissant is their turkey and cheese.
Mañana- Coffee, Juice and Bakeshop

Made in house, the croissants and pastries at Mañana are top notch! They share the same pastry chef as Café No Sé (located in the same building and has an amazing cheeseburger). Come early, their pastry case has slim pickings in the afternoon, or peek in on Café No Sé’s croissant supply.
Moonlight Bakery

My friend Jimmy Ho tells me he likes Moonlight Bakery for croissants. I have my sights on them on my next croissant adventure.
Pie•e•tea

I drove 45 minutes to experience Pie•e•tea with my best friend. A long time to drive for croissants but I would do it again and again. I ran into the owner as I was ordering croissants and he shared a fun and pertinent anecdote. He was at a dinner party studded with some chefs and restaurant locals. They hosted an informal blinded croissant taste-off. He proudly shared that Pie•e•tea’s croissants beat out Austin’s top contender Easy Tiger! If you make it here, you need to also get their kouign amann.
Texas French Bread

Houndstooth is a beloved coffee shop in town. I enjoyed a delectable almond croissant during my last visit. Further digging revealed that another town favorite, Texas French Bread provides them the croissants.
Tous Les Jours

A popular Asian bakery chain that I listed in my Matcha Dessert Roundup also has croissants! I haven’t tasted their croissants myself yet but always feel like a kid in a candy shop when I go to Tour Le Jours. Go if you haven’t gone!
Upper Crust Bakery

Funny story about Upper Crust Bakery. I used to work at University of Texas and there were coffee/bake stops throughout campus that sold these addictive cheese jalapeño croissants. They sold out very early in the mornings. Most mornings I didn’t make it in time to score these fluffy stuffed buns, but it never stopped me from trying! During my recent exploration of croissants in town, I was haunted by the memory of these croissants. I had already been to Upper Crust Bakery for my notes (pictured above are marzipan, strawberry, and almond). I popped into one of these campus bake shops and of course they were sold out but I inquired about their croissant purveyor. They cited Quack’s 43rd Bakery and Upper Crust. The cheese jalapeño ones specifically are from Upper Crust! I’ve been a fan for years without even knowing!
Walton’s Fancy and Staple

How beautiful is that raspberry filled croissant from Walton’s Fancy and Staple? Pictured is the ham and cheese croissant (their most popular), their chocolate croissant, and their raspberry croissant. I loved them all. I liked taking my ham and cheese croissant and dipping it in the abundant raspberry filling from the raspberry croissant. It’s reminded me of a Monte Cristo.
